My affinity for pregnancy and birth began while I was practicing Clinical Social Work in Michigan where I worked as a Pregnancy Counselor offering therapy to teens and women who were experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Near the end of my tenure as the Pregnancy Counselor, I was trained as a Doula, with the idea that I would act as a Labor Assistant to my most "at-risk" clients. After my daughter was born at home (with a doula attending) and I had resigned from my job, I realized that my career path was going to veer from clinical therapy to the birthing arena. What I had learned and experienced as a woman and mother was so affirming, inspiring, and empowering, I had to share it with others!
I am a mother to two beautiful children, both born at home using the techniques and comfort measures I teach in my birth classes. I am also an accredited La Leche League Leader and a co-leader of the Colorado Springs BirthNetwork chapter. BirthNetwork is a national non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide information and support to anyone interested in having a safe and satisfying birth. We meet every third Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:00 pm in the café at Wild Oats Natural Marketplace.
